On The Road Again: A Tooth Taxi Update
by Mary Daly, Program Manager, Tooth Taxi
Update Number 11 | 11/17/08 | Woodburn
The Tooth Taxi is back on the road this week. I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday.
We set a new record in Woodburn the week of 11/17 - 91 elementary students went through our screening process!
A big thank you to Judy Edgerly, from the DFO for volunteering on the Tooth Taxi so I could head out on vacation! Judy, Peggy & Dr. Heringer were guests in the school cafeteria for their Thanksgiving dinner, a personal invite from the school principal.
They also had a little boy the last day who had never been to the dentist before who was SO excited, he was overflowing with enthusiasm for his turn on the Tooth Taxi and remained jubilant throughout his visit.
One thing that always amazes the students is seeing pictures of their teeth.

We had a welcome visit from Steve McNannay from the OEA Choice Trust. It’s great to have our supporters see the program in action. Steve was able to spend some time in the operatory and observe dental services we provide.
Woodburn stats:
- 91 students screened
- 26 students treated in the van
- $22,170 free dental treatment provided
Charissa Bernard, reporter from Woodburn’s newspaper, “The Independent” visited along with high school students from Salem that were job shadowing her that day.
Dr. Heringer and I presented the Tooth Taxi program the evening of the 19th to the Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC) statewide meeting that was held in Tigard. OCDC is interested in hosting the Tooth Taxi during the summer months for their Head Start programs.
Next week’s news: Dayton re-cap
Next week on the road: Aurora
Regards, Mary
