On The Road Again: A Tooth Taxi Update

by Mary Daly, Program Manager, Tooth Taxi
Update #7 | 10/20/08 | Central Linn

The Tooth Taxi was parked at the Central Linn elementary school in Halsey Oregon, to serve the grade school, middle and high school students. Our visit was coordinated by the school nurse, Vickie Egan. Our visit also coincided with the news-breaking story of the "Bunny Suicides" book that had been checked out of the Halsey grade school library.

We spent quite a bit of time providing oral hygiene education to students. Our outreach extended to a total of 132 students, including key presentations at two high school health classes. Each session was tailored to the audience; the health classes posed great questions for Dr. Heringer.

Dr. Heringer and one of his Halsey patients who spontaneously gave him a big hug after treatment.

The Brownsville newspaper visited the van on Thursday, we expect a story in tomorrow's edition.

Central Linn stats:

  • 47 kids screened
  • 23 kids treated in the van
  • $15,692 free dental treatment provided
  • 132 students received classroom oral hygiene education
