On The Road Again: A Tooth Taxi Update
by Mary Daly, Program Manager, Tooth Taxi
Update #5 | 10/06/08 | Scio
We spent Monday and Tuesday at Scio Elementary. With a low turn-out of students and the addition of a volunteer dentist we were able to complete our treatments Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Janet Peterson from Corvallis and Megan Acton from ODS volunteered with us on Tuesday.
Service recap and stats:
- 15 kids screened
- 12 kids treated in the van
- $7,460 free dental treatment provided
Wednesday we returned to Sweet Home to complete additional treatment on category 3 and 4 students. The school welcomed our return and we received many thanks from administrators and the counselor. The students were also excited to see the Tooth Taxi back at their school for a couple of days.
The after-school program requested a tour of the Tooth Taxi, so Peggy & I gave a tour of the inside while Dr. Heringer showed kids the outside mechanical operations. Jesse a young patient of ours that we had just seen, was proud to know and see his dentist, waving at Dr. Heringer and calling "Harry!, Hi Harry!". About 50 kids toured the Tooth Taxi.

Peggy & our memorable Jesse
We were given copies of the school newsletter, the "Fast Fox Monthly Gazette" where the 6th graders had written an article and photographed the Tooth Taxi on our first visit.
Sweet Home 2nd visit recap and stats:
- kids had been screened on first visit 9/22
- 13 kids treated in the van
- $4,640 free dental treatment provided
