#29 Gervais |
JUL, 23 2012 By MARY DALY Results of the work from the Tooth Taxi team in Gervais last summer showed at our screenings this year. At the beginning of last summer the need was 59%; this year only 21%. Our model of spending a week or more at a site really helps to complete treatment on students.
A tremendous thank you to Dr. Jennifer McLeod who has been the Tooth Taxi staff dentist for nearly two years, traveling the state and providing care to children across Oregon. Dr. McLeod joined us fresh out of dental school, we have seen her grow during her tenure and we've learned from her as well. We wish Dr. McLeod success in the private practice arena and thank her for keeping the Tooth Taxi rolling!
Volunteers:
Renee Olsen, RDH. With the portable unit set up in the teacher's lounge, Renee provided cleanings to students assisted by Jake Goertz.
Visitors:
Theresa Deibele of the Meyer Memorial Trust with DFO Executive Director, Charlie LaTourette, and board members, Dr. Mike Goger and Dr. Weston Heringer Jr.
From the kid gallery:
After screening the pre-k and kinder classes, they thanked the team in sign language.
Dr. McLeod asked "is that your sister?" student replied: "yes, I know why we are sisters because we have the same Mom."

Realities from the road:
A first grader told us his dad drank a lot of soda and had to have a tooth pulled out; then he went back to drinking more soda.
A student told us that his brother eats a lot of candy and has black teeth.
Other notes:
21% of students screened needed treatment 79% needed no treatment.
See attached letter of thanks for our work with MESD summer migrant program. It is an overwhelming number of organizations that help to provide memorable summer experiences for the students.
From our Hillsboro site partner:
"Words are not enough to say how much we appreciate all the services you and your Team have provided these past few years! Thank you so much!"
