#24 Gresham 6/19/12 N. Gresham Grade School and #25 6/25/12 Townsend Farm Labor Camp
Two programs run by the Multnomah Educational Service District
(MESD) Migrant Education Program kicked off our summer schedule. Our first week was at North Gresham Grade School, a site we visited last summer and it showed with 44 repeat students who had been screened or treated on the Tooth Taxi in the past. At the end of our visit students paraded out to the Tooth Taxi with a giant thank you card for the team.
We spent two evenings at the Townsend Farm Labor Camp in Fairview, a new venue for this year. At the camp we treated young adults that were working in the fields during the day and their younger siblings who were in a camp program. At the camp, educational services take place outside at the picnic tables – and our screening was outside as well.
We welcomed new Tooth Taxi assistant Jake Goertz. Jake recently graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and has his sights set on dental school. Jake has volunteered on the Tooth Taxi in the past with his parents Dr. James Goertz and assistant Elaine. Welcome Jake!
Marcia Nado, RDH
Allison Bailey and Bob Speltz from The Standard were introduced to the Tooth Taxi program by Charlie LaTourette, DFO and Steve McNannay, OEA Choice Trust.
David Shaffer, ODS Facilities
Jonathan Fernow who monitors the migrant programs for the Oregon Department of Education and James Sims, a contractor with the state. These gentlemen were impressed with the Tooth Taxi and the services we provided to the kids.
