Haines Elementary - Eastern Oregon May 2 - 6, 2016, by Carrie Peterson
The Tooth Taxi made the beautiful drive east to Haines Elementary which sits about 11 miles outside of Baker City. There we were met with sunshine and energetic patients. This small rural school only has 120 students and each grade is able to be contained to one classroom. We were however grateful for the assistance of school secretary Kathleen Christensen. She was instrumental in locating and bringing students out to the Tooth Taxi, helping the week to run smoothly while we continue to run on a two women staff.
Several students needed fillings on permanent molars that could have likely been prevented with sealants. We made the most of our short time here by keeping some students after school and were able to provide 22 appointments and $13,883 in free dental care.
