#9 Portland -Rigler Elementary
March 2, 2015 by Carrie Peterson

This week the Tooth Taxi visited Rigler Elementary in Portland. Upon arrival we began screening children in the auditorium, about halfway through the secretary brought in a boy crying and holding his face because of a toothache. The school was able to assist us by calling his Mom and having her come in and fill out the paperwork so we could see him that afternoon.
Dr. Carneiro diagnosed an abscessed baby tooth that needed to be extracted. Though the patient wasn't thrilled with this idea at first, with some moral support from his Mom he let us get him numb and take it out. After it was all done, he was relieved that the tooth was gone and surprised by how easily it went. This child didn't have dental insurance or the financial means to cover a visit to the dental office so his Mom was very thankful toward us for helping to get him out of pain.

From the kid gallery:
"Do I get to keep this?" (Lead Apron) Catherine says "NO".
Student response "Dang it, I was gonna use it as a cape".

Other notes:
50% of students screened needed treatment.
