#16 Riddle
April 7, 2014 by Mary Daly

Dr. Rosellen Kimbrough from Roseburg joined the Tooth Taxi in Riddle. Riddle Elementary was very happy to see the Tooth Taxi return, our last visit there was in 2010. Catherine delivered oral hygiene presentations to all the classes in the school.  The morning kindergarten class gave her a group hug.  One student asked her "What's gonna' happen when all my teeth fall out?" He thought he'd lose all his baby teeth at once.

Sixth-graders that received Catherine's presentation were stunned at the picture of a 15 year olds black decayed teeth.  At the end of the presentation students were speechless and holding their hands over their mouths.  A photo does really portray the seriousness of oral decay and reinforces that students can be proactive with their dental health.

From the kid gallery:
"My dad's teeth look like that picture you showed us (picture of black decayed teeth)."
"Is your name Christopher?" "Yes, but some people call me reliable."

Realities from the road:
We were surprised at the high number of medical/behavioral issues students had at this school and wondered if there was an environmental factor that influenced student's health.

Other notes:
41% of students screened needed treatment
59% needed no treatment.
