#23 Canby
July 8, 2013 by Mary Daly

Summer School = Field Trips.  Students at Canby's Trost Elementary, along with middle and high school students, looked forward to a number of field trips this week; the Portland Aquarium, the
local swimming pool, and Clackamas Community College.

Some students were not looking forward to the Tooth Taxi because of negative experiences at the dentist in the past. But, Dr. Moffitt and Catherine made the dental operatory a fun and interesting place for the apprehensive kids.

The Tooth Taxi screened 53 students and we were able to provide treatment for almost everyone who needed it. We could not have had such a successful week without the help of our volunteers. Shawn Roerig, RDH operated our portable hygiene unit inside the school and provided cleanings and fluoride for students who especially needed the extra care and oral hygiene instruction. Dr. Jan Peterson, DFO Board member, volunteered on Thursday, assisted by our summer intern Claire Skach.  Claire was also busy giving oral hygiene presentations to Kindergartners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, 205 students eager to learn about oral health.

Volunteers:
Shawn Roerig, RDH
Dr. Jan Peterson
