April 15, 2013 by Mary Daly Parked at North Lake School – Home of the Cowboys, the Tooth Taxi was a busy place with 83% of the 29 North Lake School students needing treatment, and several students needed immediate attention due to toothaches or infections. Many students need to drive into Bend to be able to see a dentist and therefore they are unable to have regular dental appointments. One teacher explained how the students who were returning to class were excited to tell their story about the dentist. The attentive students in the classrooms were also eager to hear their stories, and the teacher encouraged the positive discussion. The Tooth Taxi staff took an evening field trip down a back road to a local landmark called Crack in the Ground. It was a fun detour to see the 70 foot deep crack that stretches across Oregon's high desert terrain for 2 miles.
